The Art of New Year’s Resolutions

Hello everyone, Colors4Change here hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday season filled with time spent with the family and memories made that will last a lifetime. With the end of the holiday season comes the celebration of a new year, a new decade even on this specific occasion. Alongside a new year comes new hopes, new aspirations, new outlooks, and more often than not, new resolutions planned that end up lasting about three weeks into January. According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton, just 8 percent of people achieve their New Year’s goals, while around 80 percent fail to keep their New Year’s resolutions. You may be asking, “Why is it that such a small percentage of people actually keep up with their goals for the new year?” You may also be asking, “Why is Colors4Change even bringing this up?” Don’t worry, we will get to both. Most people do not follow through with their resolutions because their goal was never attainable in the first place.

Based on the S.M.A.R.T. goal processing theory, it clearly states that a goal should push you, but should also be achievable. When making resolutions, honesty is the key factor that most tend to forget about. The most common New Year’s Resolution for 2020 was to follow a specific diet plan, however if you are an extremely busy person, or the ingredients needed are not available to you, it is quite impossible to not break your resolution. The most important thing is to be honest with certain circumstances and to shape goals around that. Here at Colors4Change, we are and always will be very honest with the circumstances we are working with. Across the world, 1 billion children are living in poverty, living on less than $2.50 a day. Now, as an organization, if our resolution could be anything it would be to help all people out of these conditions. Unfortunately, this is where the honesty comes into play. It is simply not attainable for five teenagers to provide needs to nearly half the world’s population, so instead we are providing in the next best way. We are providing joy. The joy a child gets to experience while expressing themselves through art. We want to be able to provide that indescribable feeling to a child in need. At the end of the day, no diet plan, no gym membership, no amount of weight loss will ever compare to the resolution of making this world a better place. This is why we encourage you to support our mission in any way possible. Donate, volunteer, spread the word, whatever it takes to be able to say, “I feel as if I really made a difference today.”

January 1st is just like any other day in the calendar. You can decide to make a goal any day, and yes, that means even right this instant. We know this is a doable goal because we have seen how just a little goes a long way. We have seen how just a little donation can bring a smile to a child’s face that won’t go away for weeks on end.

To conclude, Happy New Year to you all. I hope you not only fulfill your resolutions, but also that your resolutions are fulfilling.
