We are proud to share the success of our recent fundraiser, Harmonies From Home. Our initial goal was to raise money for local hospitals to help out frontline workers in need of PPE. Many were short of gloves and masks, and when we hosted the concert the pandemic was at its peak, seeing no clear end. More specifically we made our donation to Penn Medicine, a local hospital servicing many residents from both West Windsor and Plainsboro.
However in the course of this pandemic the whole world was made aware of another ongoing issue in America: systemic racism. The deaths of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and the injustices against Jacob Blake have awakened our country, and gathered immense support for the BLM movement. Here at Colors4Change we felt that we had the platform and a role to play in this drive for equality. Hence we decided to make a donation to the Philadelphia Bail Fund, an organization that helps bail out those who are wrongfully imprisoned but cannot afford bail. Freedom from the confinements of a cell restores the presumption of innocence, a tarnished rule in our justice system. We also made another donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the premier legal organization fighting for racial equality and justice. LDF’s mission is to strengthen and expand our democracy, eliminate racial disparities, and achieve racial justice in the legal system.
Finally, in our search for unique and meaningful initiatives to donate to we discovered Madison Wilson, a young girl from Solveng, California. Madison, more commonly known as Madi the founder of Madi’s treasurer box, initially started her initiative to raise money to provide her class with multicultural crayons and coloring books so that they could accurately depict themselves in their art. Since then she has raised enough money to buy multicultural art supplies for a number of schools in her area. Seeing that Madi, just like us, is providing art supplies to foster creativity among our youth with her own twist, we couldn’t think of a better place to donate our money! In the coming weeks we will be interviewing Madi to hear more about her empowering initiative. All in all it was the support this fundraiser received from all of you which allowed us to support all of these amazing causes!
