Most people get excited over a 64 pack of crayons. We just got 104 pounds of them. That’s roughly the size of a baby hippo… only more colorful and less likely to bite.
Recently, Wendy Hanks reached out to us with a mission: putting a mountain of art supplies in the hands of the kids who need them. After some back-and-forth about the packaging and the logistics of moving the load from New Jersey to Chicago, we made it happen.
Before tackling the hundreds of pounds of crayons, we needed some fuel, snacking on some pregame pizza and brownies. Afterwards, we dove straight into the boxes organizing everything by color. First off we started with the markers, putting them through rigorous testing before getting rid of the duds. Next, we organized the crayons by color, securing them with rubber bands creating small bundles of rainbows. The 5 1/2 hour long session was tiresome, but fully worth it, making sure that all the sorting was done with precision.
- A huge thank you to Wendy for the incredible donation and for navigating the logistics with us. Also, a special shoutout to the folks over at @gsbschool for their involvement. Also, don’t forget to check out our instagram page @colors4change and like up our post. This donation is a reminder that while one marker might not seem like much, 104 pounds of them can change a whole lot of lives.
